GREG BARRETT comes from Tennessee, USA, where
much music history has been made. He has worked with many great
artists and bands, some famous, some not, and also extensively
as a solo performer and with his own bands.
Barrett worked for years in the Nashville music industry with
soul, blues and country artists including Emmylou Harris, Dickey
Betts of the Allman Brothers Band, Carl Perkins, Dobie Gray,
Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Tracy Nelson, Bobby Bare and many
others. He worked in one of cable TV's first music programs,
the Nashville Network's "Bobby Bare and Friends",
on other TV productions and in the film "The Other Side
of Nashville." In 1987 he moved to Europe where he worked
solo and with artists including The Spencer Davis Group, Chuck
Berry and Albie Donnelly's Supercharge. In 1997 his first solo
CD, MEMPHIS HEAT, was released on the prestigious INAK/In-akustik
label. Featuring American soul/blues legend Tracy Nelson on
vocals and the Supercharge horn section, the recording received
a warm reception from critics. Barrett remained in Europe for
twelve years, becoming fluent in German, starting a family
and touring Germany, Switzerland, the UK and other European
countries extensively.
In 1999 he returned to his native country and settled near
Atlanta, Georgia, where he has worked steadily as a solo artist
in restaurants and piano bars. In 2003 as a member of the Ken
Rhyne Band he was a finalist in the International Blues Challenge
in Memphis, Tennessee. His solo program has become heavily
oriented toward New Orleans funky piano music, boogie-woogie,
jazz and soulful vocals, but he enjoys a wide range of international
musical styles. Barrett does not use drum machines or recorded
tracks:he takes pride in performing 100% LIVE as a solo entertainer.
He loves to travel and feels perfectly at home in a pleasant
hotel room.
